Damn Dams

As my husband likes to say..."we have the best ice damns on the block". Minnesotans know what I'm talking about, those giant blocks of ice that develop in your gutters when your house isn't property insulated. It doesn't appear to be a big deal, but if you don't tackle the issue, you can end up with ice pushing up your shingles and causing water damage (or something like that). All I know is that if you leave them alone you can end up with bad problems.

So, since bad things happen in threes and hammer number 1 and 2 had already come crashing down at the Peterson house, we decided to take action on the Ice Damns, before they became the third hammer.

Our bedroom has a knee wall and behind that knee wall is our attic (it's your standard 1.5 story SW Minneapolis home). Well...this is what our existing insulation looked like...hmmmm

Ahh...is that a piece of our roof there...?!?

And one last one for good measure.

Awesome!

So, we made a trip to Home Depot, bought ourselves some R30 insulation and got to work (at least Jeff did). He fixed the existing insulation and put up new insulation where the previous person had decided to just stop.  Now we just have to wait and see if things improve.

Also, in the process of removing some odds and ends that were left in the attic area by the old owners we found some "treasures".... old 1980's porno mags. Hilarious!
