Kitchen Upgrade - Final Chapter

You've seen us upgrade our kitchen bit by bit in phase 1, part 2 and part 3 (notice how I changed from phases to parts....no reason why...just forgot).

Well, we have come to the final installment of our kitchen upgrades. We painted Memorial Day Weekend and we are thrilled with the results.

The previous color was a two tone green. Two walls were painted a sage green and two walls were painted a dark hunter green.

You can kinda of see the light green in this picture. It's very grey-ish, but still green.

Here is the dark green. Not subtle at all.

We did your usual steps for painting, cleaning of the walls, followed by taping. Then we headed to the store to purchase our paint. I had picked out a Benjamin Moore color, but didn't want the BM price tag, so I picked out an alternate. Which saved me about $30.  We ended up picking Ace brand Wisp of Smoke.

Here are the results.

It is almost white. I would call it the lighted gray possible. Just "not white" enough to contrast with our appliances. The color really brightens up the space and surprisingly, makes me like our honey colored cabinets more. I also think the color rocks with our tile backsplash. Yeah!

Did any of you tackle any projects this MDW?

Subway Tiles

One of my favorite parts of the kitchen is the subway tile back splash.  Look at the before - just the paint (or bare wall from where the old countertop was)
So boring!

So - enter homies, you may know her as Home Depot - but as I frequent her shop often, we have nicknames for eachother. She probably calls me 'Frequent but cheapo'.  We were able to get this 3x6 subway tiles for all less than $40! Also enter my dad. He is the tiling expert of the family - so he agreed to help me. Thanks dad!!

While I had never tiled before, I was surprised at how quickly I picked it up... it was actually really fun!

My dad had to help with the tricky corners - he was better at cutting the tile than I was.

I had originally rented a wet saw for the day from Homies, but my dad showed up and said I could have used a much smaller one - a scorer.  Then looking at the wet saw - they hadn't given us all the parts. So back to HD we went - to return the wet saw.  They felt bad at their mistake - so I didn't pay anything to rent the scorer - score!

Finally the white grout (again - applied with a lesson by my dad) really made it look polished!

I learned a few things from this:
1. Parents who love to help you DIY are simply the best - hands down!!!
2. Tiling is not scary - I really enjoyed it, and can't wait to do it again.
3. Simple is better when it comes to tiles - I debated on a few different types of tiles and patterns, but the subway are perfect.

Any of you take on tiling projects lately? Comment with the link - I would love to see them

Kitchen Reveal!

Remember the before picture of our kitchen?

Here are a few more before:

Remember the floors before?? Gross!

Then the new floors :)  Loved them, but they made the rest of the kitchen look gross.

You get general picture of the before.

And now!!!

Do you like it? I am in love!!

I will break down everything in the kitchen as the week goes on - but let me know if you have any questions.

Kitchen Inspiration

Now that the kitchen is finished (Woot Woot! - Put the finishing touches on her last night) I can share some inspiration with you.

Can you kind of see a pattern.  I will give away one tidbit. I did not get a farmhouse sink.  I really wanted one, but without getting all new cabinets it would not have been possible. But - I am super excited about what I did get.

Look for final kitchen pictures next week :)

Any of you re-doing your kitchen current?

More Before Pictures

So there really is no actual 'before' picture of our kitchen. I think that the Hubs was just too excited to get started. But there are some great action shots.
Materials Used

Rustoleum = Wonderful

Taking off the doors.  I like how taking off the bumpers took 3 shots... and the last one has Pepper hanging out in the sink :)

All the doors are off - being sure to store the screws.

 Ready to paint :)
